My name is Julia Burt Williamson. I live in Portland, OR, a city that really values artists, artisans and anything made by hand.
My foray into embroidery was accidental. In early 2016 I was feeling burned out and stuck, and turned to a daily art practice to jumpstart my soul. I started with drawing, a skill I've always wanted to develop, and picked up needle and thread on a whim, mainly inspired by embroidery artists I'd encountered on Instagram. I fell in love!
I've run an art-based business before - for 14 years I painted and sandblasted glassware that I then sold to galleries around the country. This endeavor is a little different - I sell one of a kind pieces to individuals through craft fairs and an online shop, and I teach embroidery classes here in Portland. I'm not sure where it's all leading, but I've quit my soul-deadening desk job and now work for myself creating art and coaching people to achieve freedom through detaching from their possessions.
